What is Dungeon Mori?
Dungeon Mori (formerly known as Text Quest) is an Adventure Game inspired by the classic Dungeon Crawlers/RPGs of the old days. It's gameplay is simple, yet fun, featuring a turn based battle system combined with a dungeon that is entirely textual, yet offers you choices to explore and build your character along with the adventure.

for some reason the "sell loot" action seems to crash the game
so don't forget to save before you sell some stuff

When the goblins attack me, it gets the pronouns mixed up -- "You attack" instead of "It attacks"/"They attack."

Save slots keep turning up empty. Not sure what triggers it, but I'm guessing my browser does some kind of hopusekeeping and purges files it should not. Is there a way to backup saves ?
Other stuff:
- Poison carries over from one fight to another in slime forest. If re-poisoned in second fight the status icon does not show (hp still ticks down). Does not carry over when next fight is the slime cube... it seems.
- Using the spell Antidote freezes the game (only tried it once)
- Status icons in slime forest not showing, only the outline of the icons. Don't know if this happens to all icons, but being poisoned and the spell restoration at least.
- In one of my saves (new game with beta 1.1.4) game froze when clicking a shop. Char was lvl 17 at that time and I'd been using the shop up until then. Had to abandon that save.
Hey, thank you for reporting all of these! Currently there's no way to backup saves, in the next version I'll make a downloadable version available since some recurring issues seem to be due to the browser version.
I'm trying to reproduce the poison bug, maybe I accidentally fixed in my current version but I'll keep an eye for that. Antidote bug is fixed for the next version, thank you again for pointing it out, and the status icons seem to be an issue with the browser version too.
Luckily everything should be way more stable in the future non-browser version!
Bug report: On a new save, I bought the dark furball but whenever I try to equip it, the game freezes. I refreshed it many times but got the same problem
Thank you for informing me. Pets are still bugged, but I've already fixed the issue for the next update. Should take some time since I'm adding content too, but it should work when the update comes.

I'm not exactly sure how, but I think if you follow my profile you'll get notified when I post a new dev log! I took a break for a brief time in order to make a quick project for a game jam, but Dungeon Mori is already back in development ;)
While we're waiting on being able to equip pets, can you explain what the difference between pets is? Do they have different abilities, different stats, different I dunno amount of gem slots? The pet shop descriptions only say things like "a floating dark furball that fights by your side", and I don't know why that's worth 4k more than "a pet slime that fights by your side".
They all attack after your turn and have slightly different stats, some having higher damage, but their true worth is in their different gem slots.
Every pet has 3 different gem slots (you start with a single unlocked and when you level your pet, up to ten, you unlock the other two). These slots differ from pet to pet, and determine which gems you can equip on them.
I'm planning for gem farming as the endgame content, with the arena acting as a boss rush and an easier way to obtain them. With gems you will be able to increase your power even further, with percentage based increases.
bug report: as of today, sometimes when I defeat a slime in the slime forest, the buttons for the next room don't appear. I have to reload the page and I lose my progress.
So where does bonus XP after you finish a dungeon come from? The number of rooms cleared? Successful noncombats? Something else?
Number of rooms. The more rooms cleared the higher the bonus will be, even increasing in percentage depending on the number.
Does the bonus only start once you've had a combat? I experimentally went into a dungeon, had several "search the rocks and bushes" nc's, and then left when I ran into my first actual enemy; I had 0 bonus xp despite the fact that I'd technically cleared several rooms.
also is that why the bonus xp is sometimes different for the same amount of rooms?
It starts giving you bonus exp after a certain number of rooms, and it's also based in a percentage of the exp you accumulated.
I found a non crash bug/glitch. The little green balls "slime clump"" do not show up in inventory at the "Sell Loot" in the Adventure's Guild. The "slime clump" do not show up in "consumables" in the Barracks. I could be wrong but I think I remember selling them at one point. Is it just me?
new bug report: game freezes when I click on shops
Is that truly a "new save"? I have not run across an issue with crashing in shops with a completely new save since the last major update. You are crashing and it's not letting you in the shops at all? I tried to use an old save, and it crashes in shops. I am not the Dev!
I was about to ask what logicalChase said. Saves between versions tend to have a few issues. I'm currently working on a way to export and reimport saves in order to fix that, a lot of major issues come from saves between versions. I apologize for the inconvenience, I'm working my best to fix it on the next versions!
Yes, it is a new save. Also, I'm pretty sure it wasn't doing that a few days ago, so I don't know what changed unless there was a stealth update.
Hmm okay, I believe you. Thanks for reporting it. I didn't stealth update the game so don't worry about it, I'll try to replicate it so I can investigate the issue.
for all I know, the bug specifically applies to level 20 feline rogues and when I hit 21 it will go away. *shrug*
You know, I was mostly joking, but I just hit level 21 and the shops are working again.
aaaand now the shops are frozen again, maybe it hates even-numbered levels

edit edit: and now working again after I sold off my loot, maybe the amount of gold effects things somehow?

Really weird. I thank you for your patience in reporting this and other issues, maybe I'll try building a standalone version outside of the browser so it's able to show crash logs when it freezes.

So the "exit stage left" chests do not spawn what I am looking to find?. I am good with that, I can work with it. I like that actually. I keep finding small changes from last version, This last update was pretty amazing. Good Job, well done, balance is looking pretty nice. I discovered reading the descriptions of items is key to the game, who would have thought reading was a useful talent in a text based game :}
The Mimic mob, I have not found yet, but The idea was brilliant of you, as it makes "grinding" less a chore. More mobs like this rare ones scattered through the game would be a good idea. As we all know from playing other games, that once a long quest is finished and you have the reward, the painful camping and time required is forgotten once you have the prize. This Game is pure fun!
One last question, does the gear that increases drop rates, effect the amount of Soul Shards from the zones boss? Thank you for your hard work in putting this wonderful game together.
I'm glad you're finding the game fun! I plan to include more of these types of events in later versions!
And about the drop rate, it doesn't affect the quantity you get, since it's set within a certain range, it only affects the chance of an item dropping from the enemy but since in this case Soul Shards are 100% guaranteed to drop it doesn't really affect how many drop.

What opens the swap dungeon? completed the Slime Forrest.

Loved it, Thank you for your hard work. One thing that I want to ask is the ???? on the list in the bestiary first slot, that mob exist in game? I have been all the way to room 1k in the goblin lair seeing if a rare mob like the shaman existed.
Yes! It's something quite hidden though that depends on luck to appear. I could spoil it, but that would ruin the fun.
Ooh, if you fail at lockpicking enough times does it turn into a mimic?
I am going to figure this out, it is not the case of failure = mob because one of the versions I failed with broken chest result, and no mob spawned. Now my lock pick is 47, and I open chests with a roll of 2, I hope this is not the case. I was thinking "putting a little light" on the subject was the answer but I have been killing all morning with all that equipment on.
You have to roll an 1 to spawn a mimic, so regardless of how much lockpicking you have you'll always "fail" if you roll an 1. :)

I have a question, can you equip two of the same accessories? in prior versions it was possible, it does not appear that you can now. Bug? or by design? I was unable to equip two of the "Lucky Coin".
Don't worry, it's by design this time. I removed the ability to equip two of the same items (it's even mentioned in the update devlog). You will still be able to equip two variants of the same item (like a +1 and +2 version) in the future, but this was done for future balancing reasons.

update: same thing happens with the fiery slime. Interestingly, it does not crash if there are no pets in the inventory.

Yeah the green slime pet bug got me too. >< wish I had saved before it got me. Going to try to buy one of the other pets and see if it's all of them, this is the first bug I have come across. Well done on the debugging...

Glad to see the update so soon! I love the visuals of the home screen and the background when you fight the enemies. Now I can slay those goblins in style.
I have encountered some bugs that deal with freezing: going to dungeon after getting adventurer license (from goblin king), going to the weapon shop, clicking the accessory icon in the armor shop.

Wanted my strong character to explore the new dungeons
I do understand your side, but I have to say that I advise that you start a new character. Not only a lot of things are rebalanced and added to the shop only in a new save, but for now old saves will break things inside the game and make some features inaccessible. I'm currently working on an internal save tool to allow players to keep saves between major versions, but for now old saves are certain to break stuff.

now it is freezing up if I try to enter a dungeon, and if I enter a dungeon then leave it, my next action freezes up the game..even if I don't kill anything
Oh, I see. I strongly advise against using saves from earlier than 1.1.0 due to several changes causing crashes. I apologize for the inconvenience, In the meantime I'm working in a save exporter/importer to solve this issue in future versions.
also is it just me, or does the game keep randomly freezing during fights? Is there a way to refresh without losing all your dungeon progress?
edit: the game literally updated as I was posting, so maybe that won't be a problem anymore, will have to see
Thank you for commenting, I'm still investigating the random freeze issues, might be a thing with the engine. I'd advise against alt+tabbing cause that's what seems to be the most consistent cause of some freezes at the time.

If you're trying to load a save pre version 1.1.0 I advise you create a new one. Old saves WILL break the game!!
The gold collecting badge, what gold is counted toward that? selling items and visits to the dungeon don't seem to add to that, but some times the gold does increase, what's the secret there?
It was bugged in the earlier version (Beta 1.0.5), should be working properly now! Sorry for that!

I feel it would be a nice addition if there was an explanation as to what the stat/icon does. For example, I am wondering what the green coin icon below the money count in the 'Character Stats' page represents.

What does it mean when you click on a badge in the Barracks a symbol appears on the badge, and an icon appears top right when in the dungeon?
I swear the stat changes were not showing earlier.
Oh it just means the badge is equipped :) .
Can you point the interfaces where the stat change wasn't showing in case it is a bug?

Thank you guys, the update should come soon, probably this week if everything goes right. I'm currently fixing some mildly annoying bugs and looking for others with the help of my tester, but it should be soon.
Expect a lot of cool new stuff, especially in the visual side of things. I'm focusing on polishing things before adding more content, but what I can say is that there will certainly be some new content to go along with the update. I'm fairly excited and can't wait to share it with players!

I am very happy to see this project is still going! Been playing this for a few hours a day for nearly a week. played it often back when it was Text Quest (IIRC) and Happy I found it again!

i really like this game, already played around 2 hours, also i found a minor bug with the bestiary, when you click on the button to go to the next page it bugs and just stops showing anything in the page, however i think that bug wont happen when more enemies are added, really like the art btw.

I have a question, how do you beat the Goblin lair? I've killed the boss five times but it says I haven't beaten the dungeon, is this a bug, a feature, or a user error?
Oh, it isn't counting the progress? I'll look into it, probably a bug. Also, the beta is currently incomplete, it's more of a demo in it's current state, so there isn't any other dungeons besides the Goblin Lair, but expect more content in the next version. I encountered that shaman bug twice and lost my saves each time.(using firefox latest version) So I'm thinking, maybe it would be nice if there's import/export savefile feature. To back up my progress.
I'd advise you to avoid going past the boss at the time, in order to avoid the Goblin Shaman bug. I will look into it though, I want players to be able to keep their progress between versions, so I'll try to do it.

I love this game, but just a couple things I wish this game had.
1. More things unlocked at the beginning
2. Choices of starting weapons for your class
3. Multiple quest options at the beginning
4. A fix of the Goblin Shaman bug (like another comment mentioned)
5. Get companions as well as pets

In the browser version of the game, I got into a battle with a Goblin Shaman. Once the Shaman's turn rolled around, the game froze. Having not saved in a while, I think I just lost a not-insignificant amount of progress due to this bug. Frustrating, but it's the only bug I knowingly encountered.
Overall, this is a solid gameplay loop and I look forward to future updates. I'll provide some suggested QoL ideas so far:
- I think the game would benefit from being able to mouse over a stat, and see a small pop-up window of text that describes what it is and how it works.
- In general I think the ability to see things on the fly, like what our starting gift does, how our class plays, and if our race/gender has any impact on mechanics, would make for a more solid experience.
Overall, a very promising experience! I'll watch it closely.

I'm currently working on ironing out these and other bugs (thank you for reporting by the way) and properly implementing these QoLs, so I'm happy to inform you that the stat mouseover and gift descriptions in character creation are already in place :), so you should have them as soon as the next update drops ( I also got a few surprises along with some visual enhancements in store ;)).
